Husum thalers

The Husum crowns or Husum Thaler is the first, embossed in the field of today's Schleswig-Holstein Thaler coin . The Husum Taler was minted in Husum in 1522 . The mint owner was Friedrich I , Duke of Schleswig and Holstein - and at the same time King of Denmark and Norway .

The Husum Taler has a diameter of 39 mm. Today there are only eleven known examples, eight of them in public ownership.

  • Front: Portrait of Friedrich I with the inscription FREDERICUS o DEI o GRA o SLESVICEN o ET o HOLSAC o DUX o (Friedrich by the grace of God, Duke of Schleswig and Holstein).
  • Reverse: Friedrich's coat of arms (Norway, Schleswig, Holstein and Stormarn) with Oldenburg middle shield; Transcription MONET o o NOVA ARGENTA o HUSEMEN o 1522 o (New Husum silver money 1522)
