Hut forest project in the Solling-Vogler Nature Park
The Hutewald project in the Solling-Vogler Nature Park is a predominantly wooded area in the Solling-Vogler Nature Park in Lower Saxony , which is grazed all year round by Heck cattle and Exmoor horses.
The project area is located in the Reiherbachtal near Nienover and is completely fenced. It covers an area of 171 ha and has been grazed by Heck cattle and Exmoor horses all year round since 2000. The aim is to enable natural development processes like those that took place in former hat forests . The aim is to create a landscape rich in species and valued as a local recreation area. The area consists mainly of old oak forests, some of which were once used as hat forests. In September 2003 there were 33 cattle and horses in the area.
