The Reiherbach flows into the Weser at Bodenfelde

The Reiherbach is an approximately 6 km long, orographically right and northern tributary of the Weser , which, including its two source streams of the same name, runs in the district of Northeim in southern Lower Saxony ( Germany ).

The Reiherbach arises in the southern part of the Weserbergland belonging Solling from the union of two respectively Reiherbach called source brooks:

The Quellbach coming from the west ( Reiherbach I ) rises about 4.5 km (as the crow flies ) west of Nienover (northern part of the municipality of Bodenfelde ) a few hundred meters south-east of the Winnefeld settlement belonging to Bodenfelde (location of the " Winnefeld Forestry Office ") at about 265  m above sea level . NN . It runs - crossing the federal highway 241 and flowing through several ponds - through the forests of the "Staatsforst Winnefeld" towards east to Nienover.

The Quellbach ( Reiherbach II ) coming from the north-north-west rises around 2 km (as the crow flies) north-north-west of Amelith (northern district of Bodenfelde) at an altitude of almost 320  m . It flows through the "Staatsforsts Winnefeld" (west) and the "Staatsforsts Uslar" (east) - flowing through Amelith and crossing the B 241 - in a south-southeast direction to Nienover.

East-southeast of the Nienover hunting lodge , about 150 m after feeding the "Ribbeschen Mühle", the two Reiherbach source streams meet. It is located a little west of the state road  551, which connects Amelith in the north-north-west via Nienover and Polier (northern part of Bodenfelde) with Bodenfelde in the south-south-east, at an altitude of 172  m .

Then the Reiherbach flows in the southern foothills of the Solling along the "L 551" in a south-south-east direction through a forest-lined valley, which is a narrow rift valley and in which the Bodenfeld settlement of Polier is located immediately to the east of the brook; there had been a grinding mill since 1777 , which was operated with stream water and in which glass from the mirror glass works Amelith was polished.

After leaving this valley, the Reiherbach enters an agriculturally used valley on the Kahlberg that was washed out by the Weser in prehistory , in order to flow through it east of the wooded mountain towards and through Bodenfelde , contrary to its current direction at that time . After passing the “paper mill”, the Solling Railway crosses directly in front of this town in a north-west-south-east direction in its section Bad Karlshafen- Bodenfelde .

Immediately after flowing through Bodenfelde , the Reiherbach coming from the north flows into the old port facilities ("Zur Schlagd") directly after a pedestrian bridge in the Weser coming from the south , which has a horseshoe-shaped course there. Opposite its confluence, which is around 106  m above sea level, on the slope of the Reinhardswald is the Gewissenruh district (northwestern part of the Wesertal ) in northern Hesse , with the Hessian-Lower Saxony border in the middle of the Weser.
