Huy (Viceroy of Cush under Ramses II)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Huy was Viceroy of Kush under Ramses II and thus one of the most important and powerful officials of his time. It is known from around 10 monuments, including five rock inscriptions in the Aswan area , a statue , a stele , a door jamb , a door lintel and a cuneiform text .

His career can be reconstructed from the sources. At first he was stable master of the Ramses'II Marshal's stable. probably in Piramesse . He was then promoted to marshal and then governor in Canaan , which was then an Egyptian province. In this capacity he brought the Hittite princess Maathorneferure to Egypt in the 34th year of Ramses II's reign. Perhaps as a reward, he was then appointed Viceroy of Kush . In this function he carried, among other things, the title scribe of the king and frond bearer on the right of the king .
