Hydrostable plant

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hydrostable plants compensate for short-term fluctuations in their water balance that occur during the day. Their water content fluctuates only to a very small extent. This can be achieved through a strongly developed root system, through sensitive regulation of the stomata and possibly through water storage. Water reservoirs can be found in succulent plants. They can temporarily withdraw water from their water storage tissue.

The terms hydrostable and homoiohydric are not to be confused . The latter describes the general ability to regulate the water balance.

The counterpart to the hydrostable are the hydrolabile plants .
