Hydroxy aldehydes
Hydroxyaldehydes ( aldehyde alcohols ) are compounds from the group of aldehydes that contain an additional hydroxyl group (-OH).
The simplest representative is glycolaldehyde (α-hydroxyacetaldehyde).
The hydroxymethylfurfural is an example where hydroxyl group and aldehyde group at a greater distance.
The aldols (β-hydroxyaldehydes) form a subgroup.
