The hyperbolic SOM is an extension of the so -called self-organizing map , in which the neuron grid is embedded in a hyperbolic space .

This enables the processing of data that have, for example, a tree structure and therefore require an exponentially growing space. The Euclidean space in which the SOM works cannot deliver this requirement .
