Hyperboreus. Studia Classica is the name of an ancient historical specialist journal.

The Hyperboreus was founded in 1994 by the Bibliotheca Classica Petropolitana , in the person of Dimitri Panchenko , and the first volume was published in 1995. With the Bibliotheca Classica Petropolitana and the magazine Hyperboreus , the Russian ancient studies are trying to regain access to Western specialist colleagues, institutions and research. Last but not least, those responsible want to tie in with the pre-revolutionary traditions, especially in the field of epigraphy , which were never completely lost even during the times of the Soviet Union . The Hyperboreus is therefore intended as the gateway from Russian to Western ancient history. In addition to the common languages English, French, German and Italian, the languages of publication are Latin and Russian. A summary of Russian essays in a Western language is made accessible to scholars who do not speak Russian.

The magazine appears in two issues a year and is distributed on commission by the CH Beck publishing house . In addition to articles, reviews are also published.
