Hypervolemia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In animals, hypervolemia is the increase in the volume of the circulating blood, i.e. the blood that is in the bloodstream . It is the opposite of hypovolemia .

It occurs pathologically in the so-called hyperhydration , i.e. an excess of total body water, and can also be a side effect when receiving a blood transfusion . This side effect can be prevented by limiting the amount of blood transfused to 1 ml per kilogram of body weight and hour.

During pregnancy Hypervolaemia may physiologically occur.
