Hypocephalus

A hypocephalus is a common amulet , as the ancient Egyptians put mummies under the head. The name Hypocephalus is derived from ὑπό (Greek: below, below, below ) and κεφαλή (Greek: head ). Hypocephalus means translated: "under the head".

Its magical purpose was to keep the deceased warm and protect his body from grave robbers .
