Hyposkenion

Hyposkenion ( Greek ὑποσκήνιον , "lower stage") designates in the Greek theater both the front wall of the stage , which is decorated with statues and columns and facing the orchestra , as well as the cavity in the machine behind this wall and under the wooden floor of the stage ( proscenium ) and sinking devices were housed.
