Hyposmia
The medical term hyposmia describes the incomplete loss of the sense of smell . Most patients perceive hyposmia as a taste disorder, since large parts of our taste experience occur through the sense of smell.
Hyposmia often occurs after viral infections that lead to inflammation in the area of the nasal mucosa (hypertrophic rhinitis ).
Other possible causes of hyposmia are:
- Taking antihistamines , antidepressants, or ACE inhibitors
- Inhalation of chlorine or benzene or long-term contact with wood or metal dust or smoke.
- Zinc deficiency
- Diabetes ( diabetes mellitus ) and Parkinson's disease .
- As a symptom of Empty Nose Syndrome
- After injuries to the face
- Even with the Alzheimer's disease and the Kallmann syndrome a Hyposmia may be.
- Septal deviations
The complete loss of the sense of smell is called anosmia .
