Ištuštaya and papaya
Ištuštaya and Papaya (also Ešduštaya and Papaya) are two originally Hattic goddesses of fate of the Hittite religion . They are referred to as underground and ancient goddesses.
The task of Ištuštaya and Papaya is to spin the thread of life , above all the never-ending thread of life of the Hittite great king , with the spindle and distaff . They determine the fate of every person at the moment of their birth. The two goddesses sit crouching at work in a forest on the shores of the Black Sea .
Ištuštaya and papaya were worshiped in the Hattic ritual together with the underground aspect of Eštan, the sun goddess of Arinna , in the ḫešta house .
Other Hittite goddesses of fate are the Gulšeš and the originally Hurrian Ḫudena Ḫudellura .
