The IEEE Germany Section EMC Society Chapter (short: IEEE German EMC Chapter ) is the (technical and local) subdivision of the IEEE EMC Society and the IEEE Germany Section (IEEE stands for Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers ).

The IEEE German EMC Chapter is the connection of its local members to the international network of the IEEE EMC Society and its diverse resources. The Chapter was founded in 1994 and has since provided an active forum for technical and scientific exchange and for joint activities in the field of electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC).

aims

The IEEE German EMC Chapter aims to promote technological innovations in the field of electromagnetic compatibility. It sees itself as a professional network in order to offer its members optimal conditions for the technological-scientific exchange of ideas. Furthermore, the goals of the IEEE German EMC Chapter are:

  • Maintenance and further expansion of a forum for the exchange of knowledge between industry, universities and research institutes
  • Promotion of the formation of interest groups for the joint processing of research projects
  • Formation of a professional network
  • Organization of working groups, seminars, lectures and training courses on aspects of EMC

history

The IEEE has confirmed the German EMC Chapter with effect from August 23, 1994; in 2001 and 2005 it was named Chapter of the Year by the IEEE EMC Society . The Region 8 Committee presented the IEEE German EMC Chapter with the Region 8 Chapter of the Year 2008 Award - large chapter category . Region 8 of the IEEE includes the IEEE organizations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Chairperson

  • Karl Heinz Gonschorek (1994–1995) founding chairman
  • Richard Sturm (1995–1997)
  • Heyno Garbe (1998-2004)
  • Frank Sabath (2005-2016)
  • Christian Schuster (since 2016)

Prize of the IEEE German EMC Chapter

The IEEE Germany Section EMC Society Chapter awards the best exam and doctoral theses in the field of electromagnetic compatibility every year. The prize is awarded for up to two diploma / master's theses and up to two doctoral theses. Theoretical and experimental work are equally taken into account.

selection

The work to be awarded must have been completed and assessed at a German university (university, technical university, technical college). According to the foundation statutes, only the supervising university professors are allowed to nominate potential award winners. The winners are selected by a jury made up of at least one member of the board of the IEEE German EMC Chapter and representatives from universities, industry and research institutes. The jury consists of at least three and a maximum of six jurors. The jurors are elected by the general assembly of the IEEE German EMC Chapter.

The prize of the IEEE Germany EMC Chapter currently consists of a certificate and a book prize and is awarded in the categories of Best Doctoral Thesis, Best Exam / Diploma Thesis and Best Bachelor Thesis. The award winners are traditionally recognized in November / December at the annual general meeting of the chapter.

Award criteria

  • Quality, creativity and originality of the work
  • Relevance of the work for electromagnetic compatibility
  • Evaluation of the work by the supervising university professor
