IEFBR15

IEFBR15 is a program stored in IBM - mainframe operating systems since 360 OS / can be used for training and demonstration purposes, for example, the performance of the workload management to show the operating system.

IEFBR15 is not an official utility like IEFBR14 , it has to be created by a volunteer. Typically, this is a program that jumps directly to the start of its program and thus remains in an endless loop; Register 15 points to the beginning of the program at the beginning of the program execution; a one-line assembler program with

     BR 15        für Branch Register15.

creates an endless loop with minimal programming effort.

The name of such a program is of course free, but "IEFBR15" apparently describes the function of the program well and gives the appearance of an official system utility, whose names often begin with "IEF" on OS / 360 and its successors.
