IHE PDI

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

IHE PDI is a recommendation for the format in which medical image data should be stored on movable data carriers. It is a specification of the DICOM standard.

IHE is an abbreviation for "Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise" and PDI for "Portable Document Imaging". IHE PDI was introduced as a recommendation to specify workflows and the exchange of portable optical media (e.g. CD-ROM ) with patient image data. The aim is more reliable communication in the electronic medical image exchange between different providers.

Portable media according to the recommendations of IHE PDI are basically compliant with the DICOM standard, but numerous other restrictions have been used to increase interoperability . The PDI integration profile regulates the use of elements from the DICOM standard, part 10. The specifications contain file naming conventions (max. 8 characters without extensions) and requirements for the table of contents (DICOMDIR). In annual cross-manufacturer tests, so-called “Connectathons”, providers can check the interoperability of their products and adjust them if necessary.
