IP-to-IP encapsulation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

IP-to-IP encapsulation ( IP in IP encapsulation , RFC 1853 ) or tunneling refers to the forwarding method for mobile IP applications . The IP packets sent to a special host in the home network ( home agent ) are packaged as user data from another IP packet that contains the secondary IP address of the mobile host in the header . The IP packets arriving at the home agent are not read, but just given a further header and sent to the network in which the mobile host is currently located. The encapsulated IP packet is either sent directly to the mobile host (co-located care-of address) or to the foreign agent of the guest network (foreign agent care-of address).
