ISO 14000
The environmental standard series ISO 14000 ff refers to the questions of environmental management associated with production processes and services . This includes the identification and control of the effects on the environment, the improvement of environmental compatibility and the systematic of environmental objectives. For this purpose, no tiered system is specified, but rather a holistic and strategic framework is sought, an environmental management system, E nvironment M anagement S ystem. The standard is to be understood in connection with ISO 9000 and ISO 26000 and is applicable to any organization and business enterprise.

Relation to practice
Whatever moves an organization, there is always the need for an environmental management system (EMS). This should form a common basis for organizations and their customers as well as shareholders.
The standard is intended to hold a wide range of organizations responsible and encourage them to pursue a process of continuous improvement . This should make it clear to employees that they are working for an environmentally friendly organization.
History of the environmental standard
ISO 14000 ff was created during the GATT negotiations in the Uruguay Round on the occasion of the Rio summit in 1992, from which Agenda 21 resulted. A binding agreement on environmental issues was reached there.
