Key terms are records management , records management and records management. This means the efficient and systematic control and implementation of the creation, receipt, storage, use and segregation of written material, including the processes for recording and storing evidence and information about business processes and transactions in the form of files.

The basic document is:

  • ISO 15489-1 Information and documentation - Records Management - Part 1: General

The International Standard is primarily for the records management relevant (Records Management) in the private and public sectors as well as in the archives. The aim of the standard is to create a framework for the administration and storage of documents - regardless of their physical nature and logical structure. The focus is on the area of records management, i.e. also the "preliminary" of the core archiving tasks.

The norm plays an important role in that, as a quality standard, it also defines rules for transparent, comprehensible administrative or business processes. Since it is an international standard, it facilitates democratization processes in countries that do not have their own tradition of records management. Compliance with them guarantees compliance in the international business environment .
