ISO 5436-2

The EN ISO 5436-2 standard with the full title “Geometrical Product Specifications (GPS) - Surface texture: Profile method; Standards - Part 2: Software standards “ describes data formats for the storage of two- and three-dimensional surface profiles . The standard belongs to the group of GPS standards that describe the geometric product specification . The data formats described are used to store so-called software standards (standard data sets with known properties that are used to test software) and measured values from real surfaces .

Data elements

The standard divides each file into four data sets, so-called records . The first data record contains the description of the coordinate system and the display format of the coordinates. The second, optional data record contains meta information about the data as well as the author and the measurement technology used . The third data set contains the actual profile data, that is, coordinate triples that describe the spatial X, Y and Z coordinates of each measuring point. The fourth record contains a checksum to check the consistency of the file.
