International sound track

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An international soundtrack is a soundtrack for films in which the atmosphere , noises and music are saved separately from the voices. This makes it possible to synchronize film versions in different languages .

Traditionally one speaks of the IT tapes (in English: M&E for Music and Effects ), which are needed to synchronize a film in a different than the original language. If the film has stereo or multi-channel sound in the original, the IT tapes should have the same number of channels.

The production of an IT is a separate work step that generally takes place after the actual film mix. In scenes in which the set sound (also called original sound ) was used in the original , the noises made by the actors and the scene atmosphere (background noises) must be reconstructed , often with the help of a sound engineer, before mixing . Under certain circumstances, individual or all pieces of music have to be exchanged for the international version, depending on whether the international exploitation rights have been acquired for them.
