The IT system house is a special department of the Federal Employment Agency (BA). It is located in Nuremberg , in the administrative center of the BA as well as in various outsourcing areas in the city. The IT system house serves users on 170,000 networked PC workstations, for example in the employment agencies (AA) and the job centers / shared facilities. This also includes a high-performance infrastructure, a communication network and data centers. BA-Informationstechnik operates one of the largest IT landscapes in Germany and is further developing it.

Organizational structure of the BA information technology

The BA information technology is composed of the IT control, which is organizationally assigned to the headquarters of the BA, and the IT system house. In total, BA-Informationstechnik has around 2,000 employees - around 170 of them in the head office and around 1,300 in the IT system house.

IT control in the headquarters of the BA

IT control is responsible for the strategic control and further development of information technology within the BA. She takes on the business management tasks of strategic IT planning and control. In addition, she is responsible for IT requirements management and is responsible for IT security matters. She represents IT to the board of directors, the administrative board and external institutions and is organizationally assigned to the headquarters of the BA.

IT system house

The IT system house is the operational IT service provider of the BA and is organizationally separated from the IT control (in the headquarters of the BA). The respective users at the headquarters of the BA are seen as customers of the IT system house. The IT system house provides its services promptly and in a quality agreed with the customer and provides a comprehensive support service for IT users.

The IT system house is divided into the areas of system development and IT production. In the system development, specialist applications tailored to the business processes are developed based on the specifications of the IT control in the headquarters. In addition to the waterfall model prescribed for authorities, system development is increasingly using agile methods such as Scrum in order to be able to react quickly and flexibly to the needs of the BA and the market. The IT production department operates these specialist applications and all the necessary infrastructure. This also includes comprehensive IT and communication solutions. A private cloud infrastructure is currently being set up and further developed in the production area. The BA private cloud creates a basis for providing the customer with IT infrastructures quickly, flexibly and as required. Uniform standard services and service levels are offered nationwide for users. For users with special requirements, such as B. Service Center, an individual service portfolio including special SLAs (Service Level Agreement) is available.

Martin Deeg has been the CEO of the IT system house since 2014.
