Socialisti Uniti ( German  United Socialists , SU) is a small social democratic party in Italy . As a spin-off from Nuovo PSI , it was created in 2006 under the name I Socialisti , renamed itself to Socialisti Italiani in 2007 and adopted its current name in 2009.

history

The reason for the split and the founding of a new party was the dispute over whether the Nuovo PSI should continue to support the electoral alliance of Silvio Berlusconi ( Casa delle Libertà ) or overflow to the Unione , the center-left alliance under Romano Prodi , as it should Vittorio "Bobo" Craxi , son of the former Prime Minister Bettino Craxi , had proposed. At the party congress in October 2005, Craxi and Saverio Zavettieri were unable to prevail against the previous leader of the Nuovo PSI , Gianni De Michelis ; After several months of controversy in the party, the faction around Craxi and Zavettieri decided on February 7, 2006 to quit and found the new I Socialisti party . In the 2006 parliamentary elections , the Socialisti stood on the Ulivo list because they would probably not have reached the two percent threshold on their own.

At the first party congress on 10./17. In March 2007 the party renamed itself Socialisti Italiani .

In October 2007, the Socialisti Italiani, together with the Socialisti Democratici Italiani (SDI) and various other social democratic and socialist groups, took part in the founding initiative for the new party, Partito Socialista . Craxis and Zavettieri's old companion De Michelis, who had now turned away from Nuovo PSI , was also there. Since Zavattieri refused to sign the founding contract at the last minute, only Craxi and Franco Simone joined the newly founded Partito Socialista (PS) as individuals .

When the Partito Socialista (PS) was planning a merger with the Sinistra Ecologia Libertà (SEL) party in autumn 2009 , Craxi briefly considered a return to the Socialisti Italiani , which were renamed Socialisti again at a party congress on October 10, 2009 Uniti had decided. But when the merger of PS and SEL failed, Craxi decided to stay with PS.

Zavattieris Socialisti Uniti have been working closely with the Riformisti Italiani around Stefania Craxi since 2012 .
