The Nuovo PSI (German: New SPI ), also Nuovo Partito Socialista Italiano (German: New Socialist Party of Italy ), is a merger of the Partito Socialista under Gianni De Michelis and the Lega Socialista under Bobo Craxi and Claudio on January 19, 2001 Martelli emerged social democratic party in Italy .
The party is the political successor of the Partito Socialista Italiano and advocates unity of the Italian socialists as secular , liberal , reformist and independent social democrats within a social liberalism. In the 2001 and 2006 elections, she entered into a coalition with Silvio Berlusconi's Casa delle Libertà .
Two major splits mark the history of the party. In October 2005, Bobo Craxi's wing of the party formed a new party, I Socialisti Italiani (German: The Italian Socialists ), which joined the center-left alliance L'Unione under Romano Prodi . In June 2007 the Nuovo PSI split further into two currents: one part joined Enrico Boselli's new center-left party Partito Socialista (PS) under the leadership of Gianni De Michelis , while the other under Stefano Caldoro joined the Belonging to the center-right alliance Casa delle Libertà . After persistent legitimacy disputes , Stefano Caldoro's faction has been using the party's name since September 2007 . In 2009 the NPSI (by Caldoro) joined the Popolo della Libertà , but remained somewhat autonomous. During the local elections in 2010 in Piemonte and Liguria, for example, the NPSI was represented with its own party list and in Campania in a joint list with three other small parties ( Partito Repubblicano Italiano , Movimento per le Autonomie , Italiani nel Mondo ), but also there on the side of the center -right camp.
