The Ibibio are a people of approximately 3,976,000 people in southeastern Nigeria .

In Nigeria , the Ibibio live mainly in the states of Akwa Ibom and Cross River . They make up about 4.2 percent of the Nigerian population. Their religion is predominantly Catholic Christianity , only a few are followers of their traditional religion. They are related to the Ogoni , who also belong to the Delta Cross branch within the Cross River languages.

Their language, the Ibibio , is a cross-river language within the Benue-Congo languages . The Ibibio are divided into seven subgroups. The Ibibio language is the commercial language in Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria.
