Iblul-il
Iblul-il is the first known king of Mari . A statue of him with an inscription was found in the Ištar temple . It is also mentioned in other votive offerings, such as the famous statuette of the singer Ur-Nanše . Based on texts in the Ebla archive , he can also be correlated with its ruler Irkab-Damu .
Historical records show that he waged a war against Ebla and was defeated. As a result, he lost his position as king, but was allowed to continue to rule over Mari as a governor dependent on Ebla. This ended a protracted conflict in which Iblul-il tried above all to limit the economic interests of Eblas.
