The Icarex 35 is a small picture - SLR and was in 1966 the first model of a new camera series of Zeiss Ikon presented. Initially, the Icarex 35 was offered with a newly developed, independent bayonet connection for interchangeable lenses. Later both models with a bayonet connection (marked with BM for "bayonet mount") and models with an M42 lens thread (marked with TM for "thread mount") were offered. The brand name for the Icarex 35 was chosen on the one hand under Zeiss Ikon and on the other hand also (partly) under Zeiss Ikon Voigtländer . The model variants with bayonet connection (without BM specification) were available

  • Icarex 35
  • Icarex 35 p
  • Icarex 35 CS

and with the introduction of models with a lens screw connection

  • Icarex 35 ™
  • Icarex 35 S ™
  • Icarex 35 CS ™.

Features and equipment

The housing of the Icarex 35 is a solid all-metal housing made of injection molding. The exposure times range from 1/2 second to 1/1000 second. The shortest exposure time of the horizontal textile shutter curtain when the light shaft is completely open is 1/45 of a second; Shorter exposure times are achieved through a moving slit (the closing curtain starts running before the opening curtain has reached its end position.) Long-term exposures are also possible by manually opening and closing the shutter. The Icarex 35 has interchangeable optics, interchangeable viewfinder and interchangeable focusing screens, but it has no built-in light meter. A light shaft finder or a viewfinder with CdS interior measurement and diaphragm tracking pointer in the viewfinder can be attached. With this rangefinder, the camera gets the name Icarex 35 CS . To measure exposure, the lens must be dimmed by hand; The shutter-close button is helpful here. In 1969, the Icarex 35 S BM and Icarex 35 S TM , each with a built-in viewfinder and coupled TTL exposure meter, expanded the range of models. A retro (reversing) ring is available for the Icarex 35, with which the objectives can be attached upside down. Macro shots up to 1:25 can therefore be realized. Together with various focusing screens, this system camera has also been used for microscope images.

The camera system had to be supplied electrically with a mercury oxide battery of the type PX625. This type of battery is no longer available in stores due to impermissible mercury oxide. One manufacturer offers an alternative under the name WeinCell MRB625 1.35 V.
