IDEM

Since the 1980s, individual helpers and groups (or teams ) of voluntary volunteers have been operating in Swiss hospitals and hospices under the name IDEM (as the abbreviation “In the service of a fellow human being”) . The lay helpers dedicate part of their free time to social activities that directly or indirectly benefit sick, care-dependent and dying patients.

tasks

The tasks generally include:

  • Reception and accompaniment when entering the hospital
  • Information to visitors and outpatients as well as newly admitted inpatients
  • Visits to the sick, talks, walks, games, small errands
  • Book lending with a mobile patient library
  • Coffee service for patients and visitors
