The Igreja de Santa Cruz do Castelo is a Roman Catholic church in the castle district of Castelo in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon .

history

The church was built on the site of a mosque shortly after the city was retaken from the Moors in 1147 and Christian rule was restored. The earthquake of 1531 caused great damage. The current church building dates from the 18th century. It has a single nave with three chapels on each side.

The church was used by the royal family as a baptistery for their children who lived in the Paço da Alcáçova .
