Illionaire Records
Illionaire Records is an independent South Korean record label founded in January 2011 by rappers The Quiett and Dok2 . The label also represents the rapper Beenzino . Despite its small size, Illionaire Records is considered one of the most influential hip hop record labels in South Korea due to the popularity of its artists.
history
Friends and rappers The Quiett and Dok2 founded Illionaire Records on January 1st, 2011. They signed rapper Beenzino later this year. The Quiett later said in an interview with Complex that he wanted to start a small label to get around the traditional K-pop major label system.
The label experienced a rapid boom in the first few years due to the numerous collaborations between Dok2 and the Korean-American singer and rapper Jay Park .
Illionaire Records toured Korea in the summer of 2012. On November 11th, the three artists released the free track "Illionaire Gang", matching the "Illionaire Day Concert". In 2014 the label headlined the "Asian Music Festival Summer Concert" on May 21 in New York City. That summer the label also released a compilation album entitled "11:11".
Influence on Korean hip-hop
Before Illionaire Records was founded, the concept of demonstrating one's wealth and social status was not widespread in Korean culture, as opposed to the prevalence of such topics in the western music scene. A common misconception among individuals was that rappers tended to struggle financially, like the first generation of hip hop artists. However, Dok2 wanted to be innovative. Establish your own brand that will give new meaning to the Korean hip-hop scene. Illionaire Records has further demonstrated the power of Korean rap and hip hop music. to become one of the mainstays and market leaders in modern Korean music, promoting the genre and spreading it worldwide. Modern rap artists building on this success story have become well known stakeholders in the future of Korean hip hop.
Side projects
Dok2 and The Quiett, founders of Illionaire Records, founded a new label under Illionaire in September 2016. The subsidiary was called Ambition Music; stay true to his name. Subsequently, the newly founded record label announced the arrival of a multitude of new artists via the official Ambition Musik Instagram account, including Kim Hyo-eun, Changmo , Hash Swan and later Ash Island and Leellamarz. New additions to the record label should be listed under Ambition Music, not the original Illionaire record label.
