Illya Kuryaki and The Valderramas was an Argentine band that was very popular in the 1990s. They are the best known representatives of funk in Argentina.

Career

The band was formed in 1990 by Dante Spinetta , son of the well-known rock musician Luis Alberto Spinetta , and Emanuel Horvilleur . She initially made crossovers with rap influences, which can be heard on her first two albums, Fabrico Cuero and Horno para calentar los mares . On their 1995 album Chaco they changed their sound, in addition to funk you can also find almost folkloric ballads. Their biggest hit, Abarajáme , was on this album. In 1997, the more smoothly produced successor Versus appeared with ambient and hip hop influences, but it did not sell as well.

In contrast, the band landed a chart success in 1999 with the album Leche . Its cover shows a female breast with sprayed milk, which is why it was censored by many CD retail chains. In 2001 the remix album Kuryakistan followed , which also included some new songs.

In the same year the band broke up. Dante Spinetta and Emanuel Horvilleur started solo careers, also in the field of funk music. The more successful one seems to be Dante Spinetta.

The band has officially been back since 2011. On October 29th, 2012 a new album called "Chances" was released. Since then the band has been on tour in South America.
