Luis Alberto Spinetta (born January 23, 1950 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ; † February 8, 2012 there ) was an Argentine rock musician and composer . Luis Alberto Spinetta was a pioneer of the Argentine Rock Nacional .

Life

He started his career as a teenager. His first successes came in 1967 with the band Almendra , who, together with Manal and Los Gatos, are considered to be the founders of the Argentine Rock Nacional. At Almendra he played with Emilio del Guercio (bass and vocals), Edelmiro Molinari (lead guitar and vocals) and Rodolfo García (drums). In 1969 the first album Almendra was released , which included pieces such as Ana no duerme , Plegaria para un niño dormido and Muchacha ojos de papel . After another album in 1970 Almendra broke up.

Spinetta tried different projects. Among other things, he recorded a solo album entitled Spinettalandia y sus amigos , which was released in 1971. Finally he founded the band Pescado Rabioso together with Osvaldo "Bocón" Frascino on electric bass (later replaced by David Lebón ), Black Amaya on drums and Carlos Cutaia on keyboards . The band's first album, Desatormentándonos , was released in 1972 and was clearly influenced by hard rock . The second album Pescado 2 (1973) was considered one of the best Spinetta albums. Pescado Rabioso's third album, Artaud (1973), was actually a solo album by Spinetta, who played most of the instruments himself and was accompanied by various guests.

After the end of Pescado Rabioso he founded Invisible , which split up after three albums. Spinetta's projects in the 1980s and 1990s were Spinetta Jade and Spinetta y los Socios del Desierto, respectively . He later made recordings with the Argentine rock star Charly García , with whom he wrote Rezo por vos .

On February 8, 2012, Spinetta died of lung cancer in his native city of Buenos Aires at the age of 62 .
