The novel In the Shadow of Black Death was written by Harald Parigger . It is an illustrated book for young people , recommended by the publisher for ages 12-14, and deals with the plague in 1348 .

The novel depicts the raging of the plague in Germany in 1348 from the perspective of two young people, the young novice Thomas and the Jewish merchant's son David. In David's possession was a medical treatise that might cure the plague, but it was stolen from him.
