history

In Longerich, the Luther Chapel , a converted agricultural building on Lindweilerweg, has served as a Protestant church since 1933 . After the strong increase in the Protestant population after the Second World War, the parishes of Longerich, Riehl , Niehl and Weidenpesch broke away from the mother parish of Nippes . Parish III of the Weidenpesch community became independent in 1965 as the Evangelical Church Community of Cologne-Gartenstadt-Nord . Since 1998 the congregation has been called after the church Evangelical Immanuel congregation Cologne-Longerich .

In Paul-Humburg-Str. a parish hall was built in 1957 and a rectory in 1959. The church was built in 1962/63 by the architect Gottfried Tucholski as a hall-like reinforced concrete frame structure with exposed brick infills and a south-facing gallery extension. The nave is over 35 meters long and has 450 permanent seats. The pulpit, altar, font and window were designed by the local painter and sculptor Herbert Schuffenhauer.

The planned construction of a bell tower did not take place. The church received an organ with 25 registers in 1971.
