In defense of society is a work published by Gallimard in 1996 under the title Il faut défendre la société . It is a collection of lectures given by Michel Foucault in 1976 at the Collège de France . The lectures were transcribed from a large number of tape recordings. Foucault explores the question of how power relationscan be analyzedaccording to the model of war . He aims at a reversal of Carl von Clausewitz 's thesis that war is the continuation of politics by other means.
