Throw in the ashes

Throwing into the ashes is a method of execution in the Persian Empire .

The convict was locked in a room filled with ashes on the floor . As soon as he could no longer stand upright and sank to the ground, the ashes clogged the bronchi , whereupon the delinquent suffocated painfully.
