Freedom of Information Officer

The task of the Freedom of Information Officer is to ensure compliance with the regulations on freedom of information , i. H. to monitor for free access to information from public bodies or to an unconditional access to files.

In Germany there are freedom of information laws at federal level and in all federal states with the exception of Bavaria , Lower Saxony and Saxony and, accordingly, freedom of information officers. The duties of the freedom of information officer are carried out by the respective data protection officer .

Anyone can call the Commissioner for Freedom of Information if they consider their right to access to information to have been violated. The powers of the freedom of information officer in relation to public bodies correspond to those of the data protection officers under the respective data protection laws.
