Humanrights.ch - Menschenrechte Schweiz , also known as HumanRights , MERS , is a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Bern that advocates human rights.

Humanrights.ch is not to be confused with Human Rights Watch .

“Humanrights.ch - Human Rights Switzerland” was founded in 1999 as the successor organization to the “Academy for Human Rights AMR”. From 1999 to 2006 it was called “Human Rights Switzerland MERS”, in the transition period after 2006 it was called “Humanrights.ch / MERS”.

As an NGO operating in Switzerland, HumanRights.ch requires association statutes in accordance with Art. 60 ff ZGB (ch) , in which the purpose of the organization is specified so that it can act as a legal person . This corresponds to the registered association (eV) in Germany.

humanrights.ch aims to better anchor human rights by means of:

  • Informing and raising public awareness of human rights issues
  • Information for and networking of non-governmental organizations in Switzerland

activities

The activities of humanrights.ch mainly include information, awareness raising, networking, advice and education. It also prepares reports and statements on the human rights situation in Switzerland. He also participates in NGO campaigns.

In 2017, for example, a telephone hotline was started for prisoners and their relatives.

Information platform

HumanRights.ch has also been operating an information platform since 1999 which provides detailed information about human rights, both with a focus on Switzerland and international human rights.

75 organizations from German- and French-speaking Switzerland participate in the NGO human rights platform, representing a broad thematic spectrum of human rights work and campaigning for human rights to be observed in Switzerland and / or abroad. The secretariat of the NGO platform human rights is Humanrights.ch.

The editorial team at humanrights.ch is committed to independent, fair and critical reporting. The information work is politically independent and impartial. The editors' work is based on the "Declaration of the Duties of Journalists" of the Swiss Press Council .
