Inlaid

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Inlaids are called aerodynamic control surfaces on aircraft that are attached to the top of the wing and the hinge is at the rear in the direction of flight. They are very similar to spoilers , but open the other way. As a result, unlike spoilers, they do not generate any significant downforce , only resistance . If these are extended on one side in aircraft, a moment is generated around the yaw axisgenerated. Due to the lack of downforce, this does not have to be compensated for by a similar flap on the underside of the wing. This is particularly desirable in the case of military aircraft in order to reduce the radar signature . This control surface is used for. B. on the X-47 .
