Grand Ducal Institute

The Institut Grand-Ducal is a scientific association of researchers in Luxembourg .

In 1868, one year after the city ​​of Luxembourg lost its military importance, the institute was founded based on the great French model. The result was the first network of Luxembourg researchers, most of whom lived in the country.

Instead of "academies", however, "sections" were created successively:

  • 1845: Section historique
  • 1850: Section des sciences naturelles, physiques et mathématiques
  • 1861: Section des sciences médicales
  • 1935: Section de linguistique, d'ethnologie et d'onomastique
  • 1962: Section des arts et des lettres
  • 1966: Section des sciences morales et politiques
