Institute for Automation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Institute for Automation was an institute founded by the savings bank organization that dealt with banking automation , especially payment transactions . It existed from 1964 to 1974 and made a significant contribution to the standardization and automation of payment transactions in the Federal Republic of Germany . It was founded in 1964 by the German Savings Banks and Giro Association (DSGV) and thus replaced the working group for automation that already existed there . In 1968, the Bundesbank joined the IfA as part of a research association on payment automation - a decision that was viewed with suspicion in the banking industry. In 1974 it was dissolved due to internal disputes. The main point of conflict was the competence range of the institute. Especially regional, medium-sized and smaller savings banks saw their independence threatened by the requirements of the Institute for Automation . The former employees of the institute were transferred back to the DSGV and formed the data processing department there.
