Integrated Facility for Linux

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Integrated Facility for Linux (short IFL ) is a special processor for IBM - mainframe systems (System z) and IBM Power Systems . System z can only run the z / VM operating systems for Linux and, since November 2008, Open Solaris as well.

The advantage of this solution is that the license fees for the software licensed under z / OS are not affected by the additional processor.

On IBM Power Systems , only Linux can run on the IFL processor. IFLs have different prices for hardware and IBM software than for standard processors that can run AIX.
