The Integrated School of Ocean Sciences (ISOS) is the central platform for doctoral students within the marine sciences in Kiel and part of the Cluster of Excellence 'The Future Ocean' at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel .

General

Through the elements of co-supervision by at least two supervisors during the doctorate, additional training in scientific and transdisciplinary topics as well as career development for doctoral candidates, ISOS supports the partner institutions in their institutional responsibility within the postgraduate training.

More than 160 doctoral students and 160 supervisors are taking part in the program (as of August 2017) and are equally supported by ISOS. By participating, doctoral candidates have access to a network in which the disciplines of natural sciences, law, economics, ethics, art and others are united. Doctoral candidates are encouraged to see their research in a larger, multidisciplinary context. The research-based training is flexibly tailored to the needs and involves partners from science, industry, politics and NGOs; The program is also supported by an active alumni network. In addition, doctoral candidates can receive financial support for conferences and apply for small projects, so-called mini proposals.
