Integration hotel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An integration hotel is a hotel that, as an inclusive business according to Section 215 of Book IX of the Social Code , employs a high proportion of people with disabilities and thus makes a contribution to their participation in society. Most integration hotels also have handicapped accessible guest rooms.

concept

As inclusion companies, integration hotels are legally independent, economically active companies. With an integrative approach, they employ people with disabilities alongside other employees in regular workplaces and thus enable them to pursue regular employment. The remuneration is based on local or collective bargaining regulations. In Germany there are legal regulations in the Ninth Book of the Social Security Code , which provide the integration hotels with funds for their special expenditure , in particular through the equalization tax.

history

The Philippus Inclusive Hotel Leipzig was opened as an integration
hotel in May 2018.

In 1993, Germany's first integration hotel, the Stadthaushotel , was opened in Hamburg . Back then, it was the first project of this kind in Europe, supported by parents of eight disabled children.

From Germany , where there were more than 30 such establishments in 2011, this idea also reached Switzerland in the 1990s . The Hotel Dom in St. Gallen and The Broad Hotel in Basel are the best-known representatives there.

In 2007, the Embrace Hotels group was founded in Germany, to which most of the German integration hotels belong. Its main purpose is to improve marketing.

There is an integration hotel specialist in Switzerland . She supports and accompanies new or existing projects in a professional manner. It also helps to ensure that integration hotels increasingly become the standard in the Swiss hotel landscape. She sees the potential of such facilities by far not exhausted. Switzerland, a classic travel destination with a great tradition in accommodation, is in their opinion in a position to create and operate a lot more such hotels and the Integrationshotel department wants to make a contribution to this.

definition

The term integration hotel is not a clearly defined term. Due to the various projects that have already been implemented, such a hotel can best be described as follows:

“An integration hotel is an accommodation facility that offers a wide range of employment and - depending on the case - training opportunities for people with a disability. The workplaces, which are adapted to individual skills and development opportunities, include areas such as restoration, kitchen, housekeeping, laundry and assistance in administration and house maintenance. The proportion of disabled people in the total workforce is at least 25%. In order to be able to welcome guests with a disability, integration hotels should also have barrier-free rooms. "
