Inter-mission

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Inter-Mission is an evangelical mission and aid organization that works across national and confessional borders. The focus of the work is in India . Other countries in which the organization is active are Nepal , Sierra Leone and Indonesia as well as Germany for people who are affected by old-age poverty . The organization feels committed to the biblical mission, but usually does not send missionaries from Europe, but supports local partner organizations and churches in carrying out their missionary and charitable tasks. The focus is on holistic help for body, soul and spirit for people in need, especially children and young people. Staff and donors come from several churches and Christian communities.

history

When the evangelist Achim Schneider visited India for the first time in 1964, he was appalled by the massive needs. The first ten children were then taken to an orphanage. Donors in Germany and Switzerland took on the first sponsorships . Inter-Mission eV was founded in 1964. The aim was to implement the mission idea in a practical and concrete way - in Germany and India.

Four years after the association was founded, 30 orphans were supported. Today there are well over 3000.

In 1973 Tewes left for India because he clearly felt God's calling to invest in the vocational training of young people who would have no chance without help.

Since then, 90 homes have been opened in cooperation with partner organizations, training workshops have been established and numerous day centers have been set up. After a phase of enormous growth, it was more about consolidation . Homes were regularly visited, employees trained, and the quality of homes, schools and training centers improved. Other branches of work were added over the years, for example in Bombay . Peter Will went to India with his family in 1981 and lived in Bombay for a while. In India as well as from Germany he campaigned for the development of work that benefits the poorest of the poor in their spiritual and material need.

It has now become an independent Indian association IMCARES (Inter-Mission Care and Rehabilitation Society) with 50 employees.
