The advocacy group for self-determined life in Germany (ISL) is the umbrella organization of the centers for self-determined life for disabled people based in Kassel .

history

The association was founded in 1990 by disabled women and men. It is the German branch of the international self-advocacy movement for disabled people, Disabled Peoples' International, founded in 1980 . In 1992, the ISL launched the European Day of Protest for the equality of people with disabilities on May 5th each year .

target

The association's task is to represent the interests of organizations with the aim of equality , self-determination and social participation for disabled people.

Methods

The objectives of the statutes are to be achieved in particular through

  • Informing the public about the living situation of people with disabilities, changing the public image of the disabled
  • Counseling for people with disabilities based on the peer counseling concept
  • Training, further education measures and / or targeted public relations
  • Initiation and critical support of legislative and other political measures at local, state, federal and international level
  • Networking of individuals, projects and organizations
  • Supporting pioneering court and complaint procedures to enforce the rights of people with disabilities
  • Advice hotline for disabled people, their relatives and employees of organizations and institutions on the subject of "All about the personal budget "
