Interface control document

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An Interface Control Document (ICD) to German as documentation for interface control , describes how an interface of a system is constructed and how it can be addressed. It doesn't matter how the system itself works. Complex systems can be broken down into modular subsystems that communicate with each other via defined interfaces.

For example, the ICD of the GPS navigation system defines which signals are sent and how they are to be interpreted. The ICD enables manufacturers to build navigation systems without knowing anything about the operation of the satellites or the generation of the signals.
