from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The boarding Jos Schmit is Luxembourg boarding school based in Diekirch .

history

General

The boarding school was founded in the 19th century by Pierre Stehres (1804–1883) and can accommodate up to 108 students. Initially, the boarding school was housed in a wing of the classic Lyceum in Diekirch (LCD) and was a boarding school for boys only. In September 2006 the boarding school moved into a new building in Diekirch, since then girls have also been admitted.

Names

The boarding school got its name from one of its former directors, Jos Schmit. After he became vicar in Mondorf in 1941, Schmit was director of the boarding school of Diekirch (1945–1982), which was then still known as the St. Joseph boarding school for 37 years. Since he shaped the boarding school at that time, the new boarding school was named after him. He died in Diekirch in 1982 at the age of 70.

Management and sponsorship

The boarding school is managed by Mr. Luss Backes and his deputy Arno Ferring. The sponsor is the company Internats Jacques Brocquart asbl, which came into being in 1991 from the merger of four episcopal boarding schools that were dependent on the Catholic Church in Luxembourg. This carrier is named after Jacques Brocquart († 1610), a Jesuit who was instrumental in the development of the cult of Mary and the octave.
