International Association of Hydrological Sciences

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) is one of the associations of the IUGG (International Union for Geodesy and Geophysics ). It deals with topics of hydrology and hydrography , whereby an intensive cooperation with geology takes place. The exploration of the seas ( oceanography ), however, is coordinated in the IAPSO (Physical Sciences of the Oceans).

As a section of geophysics, the IUGG General Assembly founded the Section d'Hydrologie Scientifique in Rome in 1922 and renamed the Association of Scientific Hydrology in 1930 (Stockholm) . At the 15th IUGG General Assembly in Moscow , it became one of the seven associations of the Union.

The IAHS promotes research on all phenomena in hydrology, including through specialist conferences and discussions, comparative studies, international research projects and by supporting relevant publications.
