International Convention of University Presses

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Convention of University Presses has been an annual event of the Frankfurt Book Fair since 2013, at which over 100 university publishers worldwide meet in Frankfurt and discuss common issues.

founding

University publishers from 18 countries came together at the 2013 Convention. It was discussed how knowledge can be disseminated worldwide through open access and cooperation, how university publishing houses can be internationalized, since science has already achieved a high degree of internationalization, e. B. by multilingualism, how to improve the quality of the publications z. B. can improve through peer review and other means. The meeting called for the establishment of an international association of university publishers and regional university publishing associations.

development

The 2014 convention with around 70 participants was carried out with the collaboration of the Association of American University Presses (AAUP; now renamed the Association of University Presses) and the Network of National University Presses (REUN), one of the two major Argentine associations. One of the topics discussed was the self-perception of university publishers compared to (commercial) academic publishers.

At the time of the 2014 convention, just a few months after it was founded, the Association of University Presses had 140 members from every continent, including several associations of university publishers, again with numerous members, some of whom attended the convention.

aims

The convention promotes internationalization, exchange, quality assurance ( peer review ), translation and digitization (eBooks, open access , setting up an information database for programs to subsidize printing costs or translations) of university publishers worldwide. These topics are dealt with in workshops at the conventions.
